Love this! And yes it is comforting to know that the man at the helm is sober, eats well, exercises etc. while those of us in recovery may wish for a better choice or an easier time of it. Our lives were exactly as they were meant to be. It is my belief that we chose this path for souls grow through a variety of experiences. People in recovery having been to hell and back have a depth of courage and grit that could not be obtained otherwise. We face our personal demons and flush them out one layer at a time. We act as mirrors for others to do the same. If you are involved in 12 Step work we travel a path of spiritual development that requires us to take ownership of our past, make amends where needed, recognize our strengths and limitations, learn how to consistently do the right thing, separate out the ego from our divinity, nurture self forgiveness and love and not project our issues onto others. There are many paths to enlightenment and ours was/is one that calls us every moment to stay awake and be of service.
